From the Field to the Finishing Line: Women Redefining Print in Ukraine

Cloudprinter Women Redefining Print in Ukraine

There are moments in the printing industry that transcend technology, automation, and efficiency; moments that redefine what the industry stands for and who drives it forward.

The story emerging from Cloudprinter’s new print fulfillment center in Ukraine is one of those moments.

As part of its global strategy, Cloudprinter began launching its own network of print fulfillment centers. One of the first and most compelling is located in Ukraine, where the entire operation is run by a team of 40 women. In a country where many men are on the front lines defending the people of Ukraine, these women have stepped into roles traditionally dominated by men, including production print.

They are not assistants. They are operators, problem-solvers, and production leaders.

What makes this story even more remarkable is that many of these women came from nearby villages with limited job opportunities and no prior experience in printing. They began with little more than determination and a willingness to learn. With support from partners like Konica Minolta, combined with self-directed education through online courses, YouTube tutorials, and digital tools, including tools like ChatGPT, they built their skills from the ground up.

In doing so, they achieved something many print organizations struggle to accomplish: they reimagined the workflow.

Without being bound by legacy processes or “the way things have always been done,” this team focused on outcomes: speed, quality, and efficiency. The results speak for themselves. Tasks that might traditionally take five days, such as producing a book, are now completed in just two to three days.

This is not simply an operational improvement. It is a shift in mindset.

By approaching print production with fresh eyes, the team has streamlined processes, eliminated unnecessary steps, and optimized performance to align perfectly with the demands of modern print: faster turnaround times without sacrificing quality.

But the operational success tells only part of the story.

This work is taking place under conditions that would challenge even the most advanced production environments. Air raid alerts are a regular occurrence. Power outages and blackouts disrupt daily life. Yet production continues.

When electricity fails, the team switches seamlessly to generators. They refuel them quickly, maintain equipment stability, and ensure that production remains uninterrupted. They manage critical variables like ink behavior and drying times, even in harsh winter conditions, while maintaining consistent output.

During peak season, this team has maintained a production rate of approximately 2,000 books per day.

This level of resilience and adaptability underscores a powerful truth: workflow excellence that enables efficient production is not just about technology. It is about people.

Today, the facility produces a wide range of products, including photobooks, textbooks, cards, posters, and calendars. Expansion is already underway, with plans to add wide-format capabilities, including plexiglass, dibond, and canvas printing. The team approaches each new challenge with confidence and a shared belief that solutions can always be found.

This operation represents more than a successful launch. It serves as a blueprint for the future of print.

It demonstrates that talent exists everywhere, even in places where opportunity has historically been limited. It shows that when individuals are empowered with access to knowledge, supported by the right partners, and trusted to lead, they can exceed expectations in even the most challenging environments.

For the global print community, there are important lessons to take from this story. Legacy thinking can be a barrier to progress. Fresh perspectives can unlock new efficiencies. And perhaps most importantly, diversity in the workforce is not just a social goal; it is a business advantage.

The women leading Cloudprinter’s Ukraine fulfillment center are not just participating in the industry. They are actively reshaping it.

Their work challenges long-standing assumptions about who belongs in print production and what is possible under pressure. It reinforces the idea that innovation does not always come from new equipment or software. It often comes from new voices, new approaches, and new ways of thinking.

At a time when the industry is focused on automation, digital transformation, and workflow optimization, this story serves as a reminder that the most powerful driver of change remains human potential.

Cloudprinter’s Ukraine facility stands as proof that even in the most difficult circumstances, print can evolve, thrive, and lead.

And at the center of that evolution are women who are not just stepping into the future of print. They are defining it.

This is what the future of print looks like.

Diverse. Determined. Digitally enabled. Fearless in the face of change.

Built on strong, and yes, gentle shoulders.

And led by women who didn’t just enter the industry.

They transformed it.
