1) What does “making your move” mean to you at this stage of your career?
At this stage of my career, making my move has meant expanding my professional impact internationally.
I transitioned from the Peruvian market to the Canadian market, embracing a new culture, a new language, and different productivity standards. What I quickly realized, however, is that production challenges are universal. The same operational bottlenecks, workflow inefficiencies, and process gaps exist across borders.
My background in process improvement became a key strength, allowing me to adapt quickly and deliver results. Today, making my move means leveraging my technical expertise, strengthening my strategic leadership, and continuing to create measurable impact in a highly competitive industry.
2) Can you share a moment when you took action that moved your career forward?
The turning point in my career was deciding to strengthen my profile by studying Industrial Engineering.
My initial background is in Communications. I worked in pre-press at a printing company and later led the design and printing department. While I was deeply involved operationally, I recognized that to grow into leadership roles, I needed a stronger foundation in processes, productivity, and quality management.
While completing my degree, I applied what I was learning directly within the company. That combination of theory and real-time implementation transformed both my professional profile and the organization’s performance.
After graduating, I stepped into a Production Manager role, leading structural improvements in workflows, efficiency, and quality systems. That decision redefined my career trajectory.
3) What helped you recognize the right time to make that move?
I felt I had reached a professional ceiling in Peru. I knew my experience had the potential to grow beyond my existing environment.
During previous visits to Canada, I was impressed by the level of organization and productivity. I understood that behind that efficiency was something I knew well: structured processes and continuous improvement.
The decision required investment, courage, and stepping outside my comfort zone — but I knew it was the right time to scale my impact and challenge myself at a higher level.
4) What advice would you give women in print who are considering their next move?
Invest in your preparation — strategically and academically.
Operational experience is essential, but it’s not enough. Understanding systems, productivity, business strategy, and leadership elevates your voice and your influence.
I have worked in predominantly male environments throughout my career. What has consistently made the difference is preparation. Knowledge builds confidence. Structure builds credibility.
Women in print have the ability to lead meaningful change when we combine hands-on expertise with strategic thinking.
Girls Who Print Testimonial
Being part of Girls Who Print has been truly meaningful for me.
I had the opportunity to receive mentorship from Begum Walji, and that conversation was a pivotal moment. It helped me gain clarity, confidence, and strategic direction as I continue building my career in Canada.
In an industry that is still largely male-dominated, communities like Girls Who Print create visibility, support, and leadership pathways for women. I am grateful to be part of this network.
I will definitely be keeping an eye on upcoming meetings in Montreal — I would truly love the opportunity to connect in person and continue building relationships within this inspiring community.
