What does “making your move” mean to you at this stage of your career?
To me, “making your move” means taking every opportunity presented to you, and working towards creating your own opportunities. I graduated school with my B.S. in Graphic Communications, and began my career less than two years ago, so every new opportunity to learn something new, make new connections, and gain experience is invaluable. But, those opportunities will usually not present themselves so readily. It’s important to go out of your way to make those things happen for yourself. Those moves have been the most powerful experiences for me throughout my college and professional career so far.
2) Can you share a moment when you took action that moved your career forward?
I recently had an opportunity to accept a position with a new company. Putting myself out there initially in interviews was intimidating, but this new position offered a huge career advancement, and so many opportunities to expand my knowledge base and skills.
3) What helped you recognize the right time to make that move?
I knew it was time to make this move because I felt limited, and this new position offered me countless opportunities that I otherwise would not have been able to experience.
4) What advice would you give women in print who are considering their next move?
Your dreams should be intimidating. The moves required to achieve those dreams can be the hardest things you may ever do, but that makes them all the more worth doing.
