1) What does “making your move” mean to you at this stage of your career?

I’ve spent a large part of my career as a tactician – executing campaigns from the ground up, either as a one-person department or dividing and conquering as part of a team. Making my move at this stage is stepping back from the execution and leaning more into strategy. In my current role, I’m challenged to help different clients achieve different outcomes. This has pushed me to take a step back and think more about the “why” instead of the “how”.

2) Can you share a moment when you took action that moved your career forward?

I took action by finding a role in the direct marketing industry that allows me to expand those skills under the direction of an experienced and talented direct marketer. I work with a team of skilled marketers and designers, which gives me the support necessary to expand my experience with data, strategy, analytics, and new technologies – all while helping our clients meet their marketing goals.

3) What helped you recognize the right time to make that move?

I knew it was the right time to make that move when I felt like I didn’t have as much to contribute in my previous role. I had grown a team, built processes, and implemented new technologies, but there wasn’t much room to expand beyond the day-to-day. I was looking for a new challenge that would utilize the skills I had developed over the years, while allowing me to expand into that strategic role.

4) What advice would you give women in print who are considering their next move?

Don’t be afraid to try something new! In an industry that is constantly evolving, it’s important to experiment with new technologies and stay on top (or ahead) of trends. Keep adding tools to your toolbox so you can approach challenges with fresh, new solutions. Change can be scary, but it’s how we learn and grow into new career opportunities.
